Murder Investigation – 17th Street And Gaviota Avenue

Long Beach, CA

On May 16th, 2020 at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of E. 17th Street and Gaviota Avenue regarding a shots fired call, which resulted in the death of an adult male.

Upon arrival officers discovered a male adult victim in the drivers seat of a parked vehicle, who was suffering from gunshot wounds to his torso. Officers began life saving measures on the victim and requested paramedics. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and determined the victim deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as Austin Thai, a 22-year-old resident of Gardena.

Witnesses stated a male adult, possibly African American, was seen running from the scene after the shooting. The motive for the shooting is unknown.
