Pier One’s two Long Beach locations will permanently close

Long Beach, CA

Pier One will be closing all of its 540 stores permanently.  The 58 year furnishings retailer operated two Long Beach stores, one at Marina Pacifica Mall and the other at the Long Beach Towne Center Mall.

The Fort Worth, Texas company filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in February, a victim of online shopping and big box discount competitors.  Unable to find a buyer, the COVID 19 pandemic was the final blow as the company asked the Bankruptcy Court on Tuesday May 19 to allow it to cease retail operations.

The announcement from Pier One included plans for liquidation of all its assets: inventory, property, eCommerce and intellectual.

Pier One was an original store at the Towne Center location since it opened and at Marina Pacifica since its remodel.  Nationwide, Pier One employs roughly 13,000 workers.
