Long Beach, CA
On June 29, 2020, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 5800 block of Orange Avenue regarding a shooting. The Communications Center advised the Police Department they could hear shots being fired and people screaming in the background, with numerous calling parties also reporting multiple shots being fired, which resulted in the death of a female adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a large group of people on the sidewalks, apartment parking areas, and streets. The group appeared to be having a vigil for the murder of Archie Harris, which occurred on June 28, 2020. Three female adult victims with gunshot wounds were located in the area. Victim #1 had a gunshot wound to her lower extremity and Victim #2 had a gunshot wound to her upper torso, both were transported to an area hospital and listed in stable condition. Victim #3 suffered gunshot wounds to her upper torso. She was transported to an area hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. At this time, the victim is only being identified as a female adult pending notification to next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
The preliminary investigation revealed a group of subjects, related to the vigil, were involved in a dispute with a local resident. The dispute escalated into the resident’s window being broken and then into a shooting with multiple suspects firing in different directions. The exact motive for the shooting is currently unknown, however, the incident is being investigated as gang-related. Detectives are actively working to gather additional information to further the ongoing investigation.
