Police investigating murder of man found dead near Hawthorne Municipal Airport

Los Angeles County, California – One person was found dead near Hawthorne Municipal Airport in the 12000 block of Berendo Avenue in West Athens, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man lying unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the shooting happened at 5:10 p.m. on Friday.

The suspect is still on the loose. Authorities have not released the identities of either the victim or the suspect.

The murder remains under investigation.
