Second-alarm blaze destroys at least two homes in Whittier area

Whittier, California – Structures in the unincorporated area of Whittier were under threat of being destroyed by the 2-acre brush fire that started burning on Thursday afternoon.

In the 11700 block of Banyon Rim Drive, about 2:30 p.m., over 200 firefighters were fighting a second-alarm fire named the Sycamore Fire.

Two residences on Cinco View Drive, near Rose Hills Memorial Park, were on fire when firefighters arrived.

Upon closer inspection, it seemed that the two houses were completely destroyed.

The flames were fueled by the windy weather.

Fire Chief Janice Hahn thanked firefighters on Twitter for their hard work.
