Man who ran over a family of three while driving intoxicated is now facing up to 45 years in prison

Long Beach, California – A man was found guilty on Tuesday of three charges of murder and three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The crime occurred on Halloween night, 2019, when the young man drove drunk and ran over a Long Beach couple and their 3-year-old kid.

Carlo Adrian Navarro was found guilty in the deaths of Joseph Awaida, 30, Raihan Dakhil Awaida, 32, and their son, Omar. All three were struck around 9:55 p.m. on October 31, 2019, in the area of Country Club Drive and Los Cerritos Park Place. Deliberations lasted for approximately two hours before the verdict was reached.

According to the investigation conducted by the Long Beach police, Navarro was behind the wheel of a 2002 Toyota Sequoia traveling south on Country Club Drive when he failed to make a turn and, instead of attempting to stop the vehicle, he proceeded to drive onto the sidewalk and struck the family.

The father, Joseph, succumbed to his injuries the same night when the accident occurred, while his son died two days later and his wife on Nov 3.

Now that he has been found guilty, Navarro is facing up to 45 years in prison. The sentence will be handed out on September 15.
