Search for missing woman from the Carnival cruise ship continues

Long Beach, California – A cruise ship that sailed from Long Beach to Ensenada, Mexico, carrying a woman who went overboard has returned, while the search for the woman continues.

A woman in her twenties was reported missing from the Carnival Miracle cruise ship at approximately 3:30 a.m., according to authorities.

Carnival officials subsequently verified that one of the ship’s passengers had gone overboard from her stateroom’s balcony.

After the incident, which happened about 35 miles off the coast of Ensenada, U.S. Coast Guard members joined the Mexican Navy in the search on Saturday. After a 31-hour search, Coast Guard authorities said that teams are standing down as they await more information at 10:30 a.m.

The FBI awaited the ship’s arrival in Long Beach in order to assist with the investigation and search.

An MH-60 Jayhawk was participating in the search over ocean waters, according to the Coast Guard on Twitter.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
