COVID-19 causes flight cancelations at LAX, other US airports

Los Angeles, California – Thousands of flights were canceled on Christmas Eve, and LAX was not an exception, leaving hundreds of passengers stuck at the airport.

“We know some airline cancellations across the country are in the news. At LAX today, our flights are showing over 90% on time right now with 25 cancellations out of 1,028 scheduled flights,” LAX posted on Tweeter.

2,404 flight were canceled worldwide on Friday, with 676 of them impacting travel into or out of the United States, according to the tracking site FlightAware.com.

1,915 cancellations were expected on Saturday, according to the site, and 667 of those would be in the United States.

A total of 82 flights at LAX were canceled on Friday and 53 more flights were canceled on Saturday.

The flights were canceled mostly due to airline personnel shortages caused by the recent rise in coronavirus cases, which were fueled by the Omicron variant. Some of the cancellations were also due to weather.
