Los Angeles County to shift soil testing services to USC CLEAN Project after Aug. 14 submission deadline

Los Angeles, California – Los Angeles County has announced an upcoming change to its Soil Testing Program, informing residents that the current public health service will transition to a new provider beginning Aug. 15, 2026.

The update affects soil testing services established following the Eaton and Palisades fires. County officials said residents will continue to have access to soil testing, but the program will now be administered through the USC CLEAN Project.

Soil testing services move to new program

According to the County of Los Angeles, the last day residents can submit soil samples through the existing Public Health Soil Testing Program is Aug. 14, 2026.

After that date, individuals seeking soil testing services will need to use the USC CLEAN Project, which will take over responsibility for providing these services.

Officials also emphasized that previously released soil lead testing information will remain available to the public. Residents can continue viewing those results through the Eaton/Palisades Post-Fire Dashboard, specifically on the Surface Monitoring section of the website.

The county encouraged community members who still wish to submit samples under the current program to do so before the Aug. 14 deadline. Those needing testing after the transition will be directed to the USC CLEAN Project for continued support.

By transferring the program, Los Angeles County aims to maintain public access to important environmental testing resources while ensuring residents affected by the Eaton and Palisades fires can continue monitoring soil conditions and reviewing previously collected lead testing data.
