Investigation ongoing after a man was shot to death in an apartment altercation, suspect sought

Long Beach, California – The suspect considered responsible for fatally shooting a man following an altercation that broke out in a Downtown Long Beach apartment is still being sought by police.

According to authorities, a small group of people were present in the apartment on Atlantic Avenue, north of Broadway, at the time of the incident. An altercation between two men erupted when one of the parties involved took out his handgun and shot the other man several times, according to the Long Beach Police department.

The shooter ran away from the scene, and when the officers came, they performed life-saving measures on the victim while waiting for the paramedics. Upon the arrival of the paramedics, they pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Investigators haven’t yet determined a cause for the argument between the two men.

“The investigation to determine the motive remains underway. Detectives are actively investigating the relationship between all parties involved, including the victim, suspect, the other people gathered at the apartment, and the apartment itself, to determine their role in the incident,” police said.

There was no immediate information on what the shooter looked like. According to police, he escaped on foot.

The name of the victim has not been released since the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is still trying to determine his identity.

Authorities only announced that the victim appeared to be in his 40s.
