Suspect taken into custody after shooting a man in Long Beach

Long Beach, California – The man suspected of shooting a person on Sunday was arrested by authorities.

Long Beach police said the suspect was found hiding in a dumpster.

Officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at Scott Street and Long Beach Boulevard in North Long Beach, and upon arrival, they discovered a man with an apparent gunshot wound to the lower torso.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A dumpster near the crime scene turned out to be a place where the suspect was hiding after fleeing the scene on foot following the shooting. Police officers then set up a perimeter around the area and started with de-escalation techniques to calm down the suspect.

The man then surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a firearm on a person, according to police.

Bail for the 29-year-old suspect, Ryan Ray Garcia, has been set at $1 million.

There have been no other reported injuries.
