Motorist killed in a single-vehicle accident in Long Beach

Long Beach, California – In the early hours of this morning, a man from Compton was killed after colliding into a metal guardrail on the 710 Freeway on-ramp just north of Ocean Boulevard, according to police.

Police said the 23-year-old man was traveling northbound when he “failed to turn with the curve” of the ramp and crashed into the guardrail on the 710 Freeway on-ramp.

The crash was reported at 2:07 a.m. and upon the arrival of the officers on the scene shortly after, they discovered the driver unconscious in a Honda Civic from 2013. They performed “life-saving measures” until the Long Beach Fire Department came and transported the man to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officers do not think the motorist was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but they believe that speeding may have played a role in the accident.

The driver’s identity has not been revealed since officials are attempting to contact his next of kin about his death.

Authorities said the identity of the victim will not be released until his next of kin are notified.
