LBFD responded to a Long Beach Port incident that injured several workers
Long Beach, California – Several construction workers were hurt in the mid-afternoon Friday, including one who was hospitalized in an unknown condition, when part of a steel-framed scaffold fell at Pier D in the Port of Long Beach.
Long Beach Fire Department crews were sent to the scene as a response.
The incident happened at approximately 2:15 and part of the steel frame fell over one of the construction workers, inflicting serious injuries that required medical treatment at a hospital. Two other construction workers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
Responding crews from the Long Beach Fire Department said that a fourth person, a member of the construction crew as well, fell into the water during the collapse but remained unharmed.
The reason why the steel-framed scaffold partially collapsed is not known yet.
The investigation is ongoing.
