Reports of an armed and aggressive man drew authorities to a homeless encampment in LA

Los Angeles, California – Reports of an armed and aggressive man within a homeless encampment around 8:15 p.m. on Friday evening drew authorities to the scene.

The homeless encampment is situated at Whitsett Sports Field, which is near the intersection of the 170 Freeway and Sherman Way in North Hollywood.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department tried to convince the person to leave the location, but were unsuccessful. After many hours on the scene, SWAT was sent in to help.

Due to the police standoff, the California Highway Patrol shut down several off-ramps in the surrounding area.
