Public Health officials closed beaches in LA county due to a sewage spill

Los Angeles County, California – Because of a significant sewage spill on Saturday evening, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health ordered the closure of all beaches that are within 100 yards of Ballona Creek.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported that there was a sewage leak of about 1,200 gallons at 4545 W. 62nd St. in the View Park-Windsor Hills area.

Unfortunately, just 500 gallons were recovered from the spill into Centinela Creek, which flows into Ballona Creek and ultimately the ocean.

“Due to the inability to submit samples to the lab on Sunday, sampling will begin on Monday and two consecutive samples are required to reopen the beach,” the department said.

People may get information on the status of the beaches by visiting this website or by calling 1-800-525-5662.
