Judge hands down a 9-year prison term to driver in a fatal DUI crash

A 9-year prison term was handed down to a 34-year-old man for fatally hitting a woman in Seal Beach while operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

The deadly DUI crash took place at the intersection of Seal Beach Boulevard and St. Andrews Drive on November 4, 2021, at approximately 3:40 p.m.

Paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority were sent to the site, and they quickly transported three individuals to a nearby medical facility for treatment. A passenger and both drivers were sent to the hospital after the accident.

According to the court records, German Juarez, who resides in Los Angeles, entered a guilty plea on December 1 to the charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated without gross negligence and one count each of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level that was greater than the legal limit of.08%.

Juarez also admitted enhancements to his sentence for allegedly inflicting great bodily injury on two victims.

According to the criminal complaint, Juarez had a blood-alcohol level of 0.15% and failed to come to a stop at a red light.
