Police investigating after man shot in Long Beach

Long Beach, California – Long Beach police said a man was shot while getting items from a parked vehicle in Central Long Beach near Signal Hill early Sunday morning.

Officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting around 12:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of Cherry Avenue, near the Pacific Coast Highway. Upon arrival, they discovered a man with apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body, according to authorities.

Officers treated the man until the Long Beach Fire Department came and took him to a local hospital. Hospital officials said the victim is in stable condition.

The victim told investigators he had been shot while retrieving items from the parked vehicle.

According to police, gang detectives arrived at the location and discovered bullet casings as well as a parked, unoccupied vehicle that had also been hit by gunfire.

Police are still looking into the incident and have no leads on suspects or a motive.
